Waves of Ascension

This environment honors a vital place for early commerce and community wellness in the city’s harbor. Developed on the former Healing Arbor site it continues as a living, changing contemplative place. Symbolically, it embodies waves of change in this exemplary Rondout neighborhood of the City of Kingston. As a public site it seeks to illuminate commercial, physical, political and spiritual dimensions. It will be enjoyed by the neighborhood’s multi-cultural, intergenerational, well, ill and multi-ability community.

In its structural content this transformed place embodies aspects of former, present and upcoming times. Its current reincarnation includes historical elements from the early days of Dutch commerce through the 20th century, such as maritime fragments, bluestone, bricks, and a tin ceiling, collected from former industries and buildings. As well, art components from the Healing Arbor have been incorporated.

Early and recent history, the present, and the unknown future make this contemplative place both global in meaning and intimate in experience.

Kingston, NY, 2011 Biennial; 60'x45'x5',  boat parts, tin ceiling, benches, stone, etc.
