Season's of Wine Making

This series of dimensional wallpieces is being created for A Year Long Celebration of Art and Wine, sponsored by Hudson Valley Wine Magazine, in collaboration with the Millbrook Winery (NY).   For this project I’ve been creating mixed-media works that depict the six stages of winemaking as developed by the Millbrook Winery.  These seasonal works evolve as the particular stage occurs throughout the year.  Thus, Harvesting was created in September through October, 2010 while Winterizing was created in January through February, 2011.  Elements from the wine-making process are incorporated, such as vines, fallen leaves, oak staves and corks.  Each season I collect what is safe to gather from the grounds.  The oak stave frames are created from former wine making barrels.  Other elements simulate the seasonal conditions, such as delicate branches, animal fur, clay, fabrics, fibers and glass shards.

In time I will also explore the wine-making process through layered simulated stained glass images, illuminated within shadow boxes to achieve highly dimensional and holographic effects.  A future wallpiece series will focus on the winery’s thirty year history and its visionary place in the world of viticulture.
