Lifeforce; Gifts From the River

Lifeforce, Gifts From the River (2011) is part of an environmental series sited along regional waterways and in galleries since 1996. The confluence of nature and industry, timelessness and history integrates as it honors the Hudson River. It acknowledges the condition of living with uncertainty as in the movement of tides, at once calming and intense.  In its reverence for nature, love of water and respect for the environment, it seeks to create trust in the known and unknown. The tree roots, limbs and branches are universal symbols of life and regeneration, stability and balance. The river glass, smoothed by the tides over time, embodies life's fragilities. Symbolic of fluidity and change, the tree’s rootedness, the water's flexibility and the ephemerality of transparent elements offer inspiration for dealing with life’s challenges.
