Statement
A concern for the cycles
of life, death and regeneration lies at the roots of all my endeavors.
I am a lifelong
artist and a facilitator of others in the creation of individual and
collaborative art.

As a multi-dimensional artist, educator and facilitator, with a wide vision, I have interwoven various threads in the creation of my own work and the art of others, over the past thirty years. I have evolved as a public and gallery artist, developing a visual language that integrates multiple layers and realities into dimensional wall pieces, sculptures and installations. In particular I have focused on the creation of indoor and outdoor, site-specific environments, using transparent and ephemeral natural and man-made elements. Since moving to upstate New York I created a series of Lifeforce installations along local waterways, incorporating indigenous elements. In the past ten years my work became focused on the creation of contemplative public places, such as a Healing Arbor created with those touched by cancer on the Kingston, New York waterfront. Most recently, I am focused on the creation of a Living With Uncertainty Sanctuary with those suffering from traumatic brain injuries and related conditions at the Northeast Center for Special Care where I am the director of fine arts. I am also developing a series of Fragility of Life of mixed-media wallpieces, sculptures and installations for galleries and public settings. My work evolves from a deeply personal perspective, as well as a public, community based consciousness. |
Over the
years I balanced my own evolution as an artist with the demands of diverse
populations, working collaboratively with professionals and non
professionals in the public realm. I have been an educator and facilitator
of people from ages three to one hundred, in all manner of schools,
healthcare facilities and community settings. I worked in inner city and
rural neighborhoods for the past twenty years, focused on individual and
community revitalization. I segwayed organically into the arts and
wellness, working in that field for the past ten years. Throughout the
years I orchestrated large-scale projects with intergenerational, well and
ill groups. I collaborated with architects, landscape designers,
scientists, city planners, arts and other professionals. Simultaneously, I
live quietly with a consistent, concentrated and passionate pursuit of my
art over the course of my life. Currently this pursuit continues with a
heightened imperative to synthesize the various dimensions of my work.
Thus, I strive to create my deepest, most evolved personal art, while
facilitating others in the creation of their art, in ever more effective
ways. Likewise, I am developing articles and lectures that seek to
synthesize the poignant lessons I've absorbed, imparting the power of
creativity to a wider audience. |
